Snowboards for beginners can cost top dollar but they dont have to. In fact they probably shouldnt. It is easy to think that the best beginner snowboard should be one of the more expensive boards. The logic behind that theory is that the more it cost the better the quality the better the quality the easier it will be to snowboard. However for snowboarding that theory doesnt work at least not for beginners snowboards. It is true that as the price of snowboards go up so does the quality of the material used in making snowboards. The quality of a snowboard though is not a big of issue for a beginner as it is for a more advanced rider. One good reason to buy the lower to mid ranged priced snowboards is that you might not like snowboarding and why invest a lot of money on a snowboard if you arent really sure that your going to be into the sport.
You can go on eBay which not only shows pictures and useful information on the product that youre buying but there are a variety of used snowboard and other snowboarding accessories. Another one is Craigslist if you live in the states. Craigslist you can even meet with the person youre buying from and see for yourself what the board will even look like and test it out. The important thing to check for when buying a used snowboard is of course if there is any damage on the board. Make sure when checking around the board remove the bindings to see if there dents or cracks on the bindings removes any stickers to see if there are any damage on the board. If you get lucky you might find a perfect board for you and itll feel brand new even though its a used one. Thats the good thing about used snowboards even though it is used once you find that good one for you you hit up the slopes and it feels wonderful riding in it like its a brand new board.
But if you really have to put a lot of weight into it than it is probably a little too stiff for what you want. If you are shopping at an online snowboarding store check the board review or product description. Usually they will say something about the flex of the board. Or they might have a ratings system where they rate the torsional(side to side) flex and the longitudinal(tip to tail) flex. The higher the number the more flexible it is. The bottom line is that the best beginner snowboard is one that is easier to turn. The first and most basic aspect of snowboarding is turning but for someone just starting out it can be difficult. Buy snowboards that are softer and they will make learning to turn easier. And the good thing is is that most entry level to mid-ranged priced snowboards have a softer flex so you wont have to break the bank to get a snowboard. Good Luck and Have Fun.
They are good for doing tricks and are generally softer and shorter for than other boards allowing riders to turn twist and flip easily. There are also freeride boards. These boards are generally longer and sometimes are directional (meaning they are meant primarily to be ridden one direction). They are more stable at high speeds. Lastly there are powder boards which are designed for deep soft snow. They are usually wider and bigger in order to give you the correct float. Snowboard size is critical when purchasing a new board as each style requires a different size depending on your weight and ability. Most boards these days have their own chart which can help to guide you. Be sure to also ask a snowboard sizing expert at the store before making the purchase. There are also many different types of snowboard boots on the market that complement each type of riding style.
